The list below includes the address of the original creditor or collection agency that may be presently assigned to collect your consumer or business debt.

Depending on the degree of non-payment, the collection account may be under the ownership and/or collection assignment of the following collection party:

1. Original creditor first-party collection agency:

The original creditor is the bank or financial institution that issued your consumer or business loan or line of credit. Typically, the original creditor will assign a first-party collection agency, usually a subsidiary of the original creditor, to collect on the unpaid debt from the date of the debt's non-payment until just before the debt is declared as a "charge-off" by the original creditor.

Note: The declaration of a charge-off is generally made after six months (180 days) of non-payment of the debt. A charge off will allow the original creditor to declare the collection account as a business loss, allowing the creditor to gain a tax exemption. However, it does not excuse you as the debtor from the debt repaying obligation

2. Third-party collection agency:

The original creditor may also assign the collection of your unpaid debt to a third-party collection agency. Being that a third-party collection agency is a debt collector that collects debts on behalf of the original creditor for a fee, you can expect this type of collection agency to be more aggressive.

3. Debt buyer collection agency:

If your collection account is charged off by the original creditor, it may also be sold off to a debt buyer at a fraction of the debt's face value. The debt buyer may also resell the debt, or assign a subsidiary collection agency, or third-party debt collector to collect on the debt.

4. Attorney or law firm collection agency:

The original creditor or debt buyer may hire an attorney or law firm collection agency to initiate collection legal proceedings. Although this would indicate a greater collection threat, no collection attorney or law firm that is unlicensed to practice law in the debtor's state of residence can legally enforce collection of an unpaid debt.
